Hedra App

Hedra App

Overview

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease that prevents the pancreas from producing insulin, a necessary component in regulating the body's blood sugar level. Daily monitoring and management makes maintaining safe glucose levels a complex control problem that is further complicated by exercise.

Objective

Hedra is an AI-driven health app developed by an interdisciplinary team to provide individualized decision support for people with Type 1 diabetes. By offering personalized strategies such as insulin, physical activity, and food intake, Hedra aims to help users avoid hypo- and hyperglycemia around exercise and ultimately improve quality of life.

Ecosystem Proposal

Hedra's ecosystem takes advantage of the data generated from existing external devices to suggest an optimal strategic action. Target users are those with Type 1 diabetes who are already using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), insulin pump, and fitness tracker.

Structural Challenges

In the initial proposal, screens are divided into two major branches: standard mode and planning mode. However, we found obvious design flaws with this structure, as much of the information gets repeated or buried within unnecessary nests.

Consolidating the Modes

To avoid redundant screens and help streamline the flow, we chose to consolidate both "modes" to prevent any overlap of information.

Low-Fidelity Sketches

Rough sketches are drawn to get a sense of the flow and general layout of the app. A navigation menu at the bottom offers quick access to the three main destinations within the app: home, stats, and workouts.

Medium-Fidelity Wireframes

The low-fidelity sketches are translated digitally and further refined. These wireframes will later serve as rough blueprints for the final design.

Branding

This clean and futuristic logo—sourced from the letter "H" and reminiscent of a brain and fingerprint—is a nod to the artificial intelligence and personalization of the app's strategies. These colors and visual marks are integrated into the final prototype for a cohesive and unique user interface.

Final Prototype

Because of Hedra's complex holistic system, it was imperative the design facilitated a logical and intuitive experience for users. The final prototype showcases a clean and modern app that is easy to navigate yet still rich in its capabilities.
